Can agricultural trade improve total factor productivity? Empirical evidence from G20 countries

Improving agricultural total factor productivity is essential to achieving the high-quality and sustainable development of agriculture. As major global producers, G20 countries play an important role in product trade development. such, it well-positioned a positive improving productivity. This paper uses DEA-Malmquist index method measure (TFP) from 2010 2019, analyzes impact on TFP using two-way fixed effects model. It finds that (1) main source growth technical progress, while effect efficiency not obvious. (2) Agricultural can significantly improve countries, more obvious developed countries. From perspective flow, export stronger. (3) The institutional environment strengthens improvement TFP. Thus, this study only provides valuable insight into relationship between productivity, but also offers strong argument favor formulation relevant policies promote sector.
